The town of Wilcannia on the banks of the Darling River was once one of the largest shipping ports in New South Wales which led this remarkably prosperous town to be known as the Queen City of the West. A large community of Barkindji Aboriginal people whose ancestors inhabited the land before settlement continue to live in Wilcannia today.
