Located on the banks of Warialda Creek in the far North of the state, Wariada takes its name from a Wirrayaraay Abriginal word meaning 'place of wild honey'. Fisrt explored by escaped convicts in the early 1800s, the area was eventually settled by sheep and livestock farmers and in 1849 the town of Warialda was officially named.
