Originally inhabited by the Guringai Aboriginal people, Wahroonga takes its name from an Aboriginal word meaning 'our home'. With orchards and smaller pastoral pursuits popular when the area was first settled in the 1820s, the suburb would be primarily residential by the early 1900s.
