The suburb of Rhodes on the banks of the Parramatta River is part of the traditional land of the Wangal clan of the Eora Aboriginal people of Sydney. The suburb takes its name from one of the district’s first settlers, Thomas Walker, who named his property 'Rhodes' after his grandmother’s home in England.
