Located on the far south coast of New South Wales, Merimbula began as a small fishing village in the 1850s serving as the primary service centre for the surrounding coastal regions. With the downturn of rural industry in the area following World War II, Merimbula would become a thriving resort town with tourism now the primary employer in the town.
