You are in: Killara
To PlacesTaking its name from a local Guringai Aboriginal word meaning 'permanent' or 'always there', the north shore Sydney suburb of Killara began to grow following the extension of a railway line through the suburb to Hornsby in 1890.
A young Ethel Turner and her family would move to Inglewood House on Werona Avenue in 1891 following their migration from England in 1879. Turner wrote her most famous book, 'Seven Little Australians', while living in Inglewood, and her contribution to the suburb is commemorated in the Seven Little Australians Park on Stanhope Road.
