Located just outside of Canberra, Cootamundra was first settled by livestock farmers in the 1860s. The town would take its name from one of the first cattle stations established in the region which in turn was named after a local Aboriginal word 'Gooramundra' which can mean either 'turtles' or 'swamp'. Legendary Cricketer Donald Bradman was born in Cootamundra in 1908, although his family moved to Bowral three years later.
