The inner Sydney city suburb of Chippendale takes its name from William Chippendale who was one of the first people granted land in the area in the early 1800s. By the 1900s Chippendale was primarily accommodating the workers of local industries such as Kent Brewery, Brisbane Distillery and CSR Refinery. When the Carlton & United Brewery site is redeveloped by Frasers Property Australia into high density residential apartments, the population of Chippendale is expected to increase dramatically.
