To PlacesThe small town of Buronga on the Murray River sits on the border of New South Wales and Victoria. Part of the land explored by Charles Sturt in the 1830s, Buronga was part of the large Tapio cattle run in the 1840s before smaller subdivisions became available after the Robertson Lands Act came into effect in 1861. The village was formed mainly through settlement of poorer families unable to afford land in the bustling port town of Mildura on the opposite bank of the Murray River in Victoria.
