Today's Rock Music Success Stories
To CultureWith a distinctly Australian rock music sound emerging from the local music scene of the 1970s and 80s, today's bands take their cues from those recent success stories whilst reflecting on a global sound which has emerged in their wake. Supported by a strong pub rock culture, contemporary bands have been able to establish themselves slowly, and with a pride in such traditional Australian cultural values as mateship, hard work and the rise of the underdog, have formed strong music communities.
Today, the New South Wales rock music culture continues to enjoy astounding success both locally and overseas. Bands such as Youth Group have garnered ongoing praise, whilst up-and-coming bands such as the Red Riders continue to keep the industry in a state of renewal. And whilst Sydney has played a significant role in the development of our greatest local successes, regional centres continue to produce with ARIA award winning bands such as Newcastle's Silverchair and Lismore's Grinspoon.
