Located on Mount Kosciuszko in what is now National Parkland, settlement in the Perisher Valley would begin with the area chosen as one of many work camps for the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Scheme. From the 1950s ski lodges were built and the Perisher Valley became one of the key Snowy Mountains resort towns.
