Located in the Walgan Valley in south-east New South Wales, Newnes was once a flourishing community which centred around the Shale Oil Plant which opened in 1906. With the Plant closing in 1932, the overgrown remains of the Plant and the former Newnes Hotel which now operates as a Kiosk for visitors are all that remain of this once thriving town.
