Born in the inner Sydney suburb of Dulwich Hill in 1939, John Howard joined the House of Representatives in 1974 as the Member for Bennelong. As leader of the Liberal party, Howard became Prime Minister in 1996 and remained in power until 2007, making him the longest serving Prime Minister in Australian history.
