Dorothea Mackellar, Poet
To CultureBest known for her anthemic poem 'My Country', written whilst living in England and pining for home, Dorothea Mackellar was considered a quntessential Bush Poet capable of evocative renditions of the Australian bushscape. She spent her latter years in Pittwater's Elvina Bay in the electorate which was later named in her honour. In 1968, just two weeks before her death, her contribution to Australian literature was formally recognised when she was made an Officer of British Empire.
