Dorothea Mackellar
To PeopleBest known for her anthemic-like poem 'My Country', written whilst living in England and yearning for home, Dorothea Mackellar was considered a quintessential 'bush' poet capable of evocative renditions of the Australian bushscape. She spent her latter years in Pittwater's Elvina Bay in the electorate which was later named in her honour. In 1968, just two weeks before her death, her contribution to Australian literature was formally recognised when she was made an Officer of British Empire.
