Art in New South Wales dates back thousands of years, with indigenous Australian art preserved in caves and rocks throughout the state. Just as these artforms showed representations of everyday life and culture, art of other traditions which have since been introduced into Australia aim to do a similar thing.

Throughout New South Wales, localised arts communities are supported by a plethora of independently run and owned gallery and museum spaces. With their primary interest in promoting locally produced art, they play an invaluable part in supporting the New South Wales arts community.
