Dawn Fraser
To PeopleOlympic swimmer and gold medallist Dawn Fraser always set her sights bigger than the pool. Retiring from swimming in 1965 following a disagreement with Swimming Australia, Fraser took pride in her position as an active member of the wider community becoming a publican and swim coach in her home suburb of Balmain. She entered parliament as an independent in 1988 and served as the representative for the seat of Balmain until 1991.
