Located on the banks of the Snowy River, the town of Dalgety was once a popular summer meeting place for local Aboriginal tribes. With the other original Snowy Mountain towns of Jindabyne and Adaminaby flooded following the commencement of the Snowy River Scheme, Dalgety is the oldest surviving town in the region and many of its heritage buildings date back to when Dalgety was first settled in the 1850s.
