Located just east of Lake George the the border of New South Wales with Australian Capital Territory, Boro takes its name from a variation of the Aboriginal ceremonial 'bora ring'. The silver mining town was a favoured haunt of the bushranger William Westwood 'Jackey Jackey' who had escaped from nearby Gidley Station in 1840.
