This game comes from a group of twelve items donated by Michael Henry. It is well-provenanced, having been received as a present and used by the donor's brother Jason Henry.
Complete with original packaging, it can be used to illustrate themes relating to children, domestic life and the family. It is also relevant the marketing of products to children, and the merchandising of licensed 'spin-off' products from television programs, in this case the original 'Star Trek' television series.
Created by Gene Roddenberry, 'Star Trek' first screened on NBC from 1966 to 1969. Starring William Shatner as Captain Kirk, it told the tale of the crew of the starship 'USS Enterprise' and their five-year mission 'to boldly go where no man has gone before'. The series subsequently became popular in syndication, and a cult classic, giving rise to the film and television sequels that followed.
