Sculpture 'Yellowbelly Fish' by Zona Wilkinson

Zona Wilkinson is a Gamiliraay artist from Gunnedah and surrounding north western NSW. She began painting in the late 1960s as a reflection of her inner spirit. Zona is a talented Koori woman who has worked in the arts industry as an artist, art teacher and curator. Zona is also heavily involved in the Aboriginal Football Knockout that is held each year and is a major gathering of the Indigenous community which allows Indigenous people to reconnect with family and community from across NSW. The Knockout is also a festival for Indigenous people and arts and crafts are bought and sold. More recently Zona has been working as an art teacher sharing her skills with other Indigenous women. Through her classes she encourages other Indigenous women, men and youth to create art helping to build their confidence and portfolio to help further their knowledge and skills in the arts community. Through her arts education of Indigenous women she helps to empower the Indigenous arts community in particular Indigenous women. She is currently curating an exhibition on Indigenous Missions at the Lewers Gallery in Penrith.
