Canterbury Railway Station group

Canterbury is significant as one of three station buildings constructed on that line that represent the original and best of the island platform structures. It has elaborate detailing, a high standard of finish and is in the predominant style of the period which marked a departure from the buildings of the 1880's.
The goods shed is a very rare surviving example in the metropolitan area that has high significance in understanding the former operation of the suburban rail system and the role of the railway in handling goods as well as passenger traffic.
