The Rosenzweig family records provide an rich body of mid 20th century migration material. They record the passage that many European Jews took who fled the Third Reich and who found sanctuary in Shanghai during the 2nd World War. Their journey has significance for NSW histories of migration and settlement because like many among the Shanghai Diaspora the Rosenzweig family eventually emigrated to Australia, contributing significantly to the economic and cultural life of a more diverse post-war society.

The Rosenzweig Family records reflect significant cultural exchanges made during their extended stay in Shanghai, both amongst the displaced European communities, as well as contacts between Chinese and Japanese occupiers of Shanghai during the war.
