Background

About NSW was developed in 2008 to trial new ways of interacting with cultural information online. Partnerships were established with leading institutions to provide an information service for the benefit of schools, tourists and citizens. During the pilot phase, About NSW provided the technical infrastructure required to unite digital collections from contributing content partners. By combining information from previously separate sources, the project aimed to demonstrate the relationships between collections and build new interfaces and tools that make exploring this information easy. Right now, you can:

• * search for images and articles on popular topics related to New South Wales
• * browse artworks, heritage sites, museum artefacts and related information on a map
• * explore demographic data and compare different regions on a map

Most significantly, About NSW facilitates the flow of information. The future possibilities for publishing online, offline and providing mobile services are immense.
